Today is Purim. In synagogues across Israel, the Book of Esther is being read — the account of a Persian ruler’s chief advisor who sought the extermination of the Jewish people.
His name was Haman.
Haman did not argue or negotiate with the Jews. He sought their annihilation.
He drafted a legal decree calling for the destruction of every Jew — men, women, and children — in a single coordinated act of violence across the Persian Empire.
It was state-sanctioned genocide. And it came from Persia.
Our Role As Believers
The story of Esther was never merely about the fall of one man. It was about God's protection of the Jewish people.
Now, as dramatic events unfold in modern Persia, our response as Believers is prayer.
We pray for God's protection over Israel. We pray God will grant wisdom to U.S. leaders. We pray for the Iranian people and the vast underground community of Iranian Christians who follow Yeshua at great personal risk. (Reports show that Iran has one of the fastest-growing underground church movements in the world.)
God is at work in places where His name is suppressed. The gospel is advancing — even in Iran.
During this Purim festival, may we marvel once again at the miracle of Jewish survival, and the faithfulness of the Holy One of Israel.
