The Ayin (Eye) of Yahweh

The true sacred origin of the all-seeing Eye 👁️ of Providence is Yahweh’s holy Word, and the Hebrew Aleph-Bet letter Ayin, which was symbolized as His eye within the ancient Pictographic (Hieroglyphic) language. Many people who fear this symbol lack both a biblical education and divine revelation. It was not the Egyptians or the Freemasons who created this symbol. There is nothing “evil” about what is Scriptural and holy in origin. The head fallen Seraph (fiery winged serpent-dragon), Satan (adversary) cannot create, but merely mimics, imitates and counterfeits Yahweh, because he wants to be like the Most High (Yeshayahu / Isaiah 14:14). He is a thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy. According to the biblical prophecies, the red dragon will also possess the antichrist beast (man of sin ; son of perdition), sit on the mercy seat throne of the Ark of the Covenant in the Third Temple, commit the idolatrous abomination of desolation, and receive worship during the tribulation period. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, etc.) Yeshua haMashiach (Iesous Christos / Jesus the Anointed One) said,

“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light.” (Matthew 6:22)

David the Psalmist wrote,

“Protect me as the pupil of Your eye [ayin 👁️]; hide me in the shadow of Your wings.” [Tehillim / Psalms 17:8]

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye [ayin 👁️].” [Tehillim / Psalms 32:8]

“Behold, the eye [ayin 👁️] of Yahweh is on those who fear Him, on those who wait for His lovingkindness,” [Tehillim / Psalms 33:18]

The all-seeing eye in Christian art, often confused with Masonic symbolism, represents the omniscience of God.

Contextual Meanings:

Springs and Sight: In Hebrew, ayin can mean both a physical eye and a spring of water.

Wisdom and Misuse: The eye can represent spiritual perception, but also jealousy or coveting (e.g., ayin hara or the "evil eye").

Connection to Secrets: The letter Ayin (value 70) is linked to the concept of yayin (wine) and sod (secret), implying that what the eye seeks, knowledge (secrets) is revealed.

The Meaning of Ayin

The word Ayin  means "eye," "to see," and by extension, to understand and obey (see Jer. 5:21, Isa. 6:10, Matt. 13:15, etc.). Ayin further represents the primeval light, that is, the spiritual light of Yahweh God mentioned in Gen. 1:3 (in distinction to celestial lights mentioned in Gen. 1:14-18). According to Jewish midrash, this divine supernatural light is far greater than the natural light that emanates from the sun and stars. Though concealed in the Torah, the spiritual eye can behold the presence of this radiance, but only by means of inner eye given by Ruach HaKodesh (Hagios Pneuma / The Holy Spirit).

The Gematria (Numerical Value) of Ayin

The letter Ayin can be represented as the number 16 (from its ordinal position within the Alphabet), as 17 (from its component values of Yod (10) and Zayin (7)); as 70 (from its number within the alphabet), as 130 (from its plenary spelling: Ayin (70), Yod (10), and Nun (50)), and so on. The value 130 is thought to be suggestive of the ladder (selum) of Sinai, both words which equal 130, which suggests that the spiritual eye sees the Torah as the means of approaching God.

Of particular interest, however, is the number 70, since it occurs frequently within the sacred Scriptures and also Jewish tradition. In Scripture we read that 70 from Jacob’s household went into Egypt, 70 elders of Israel saw the Yahweh the God of Israel on Mount Sinai, 70 sacrifices made for the nations (during the festival of Sukkot-Tabernacles), and Israel was subject to 70 years of exile in Babylon. In Jewish tradition, there are 70 members of the Sanhedrin, 70 words of Kaddish, 70 "faces of Torah," 70 Names of God, and 70 birth pangs until the coming of the Messiah.

“Ancient Pictographic (Hieroglyphic) Hebrew Aleph-Bet Letter Ayin”

“…This letter represents the ideas of seeing and watching as well as knowledge, as the eye is the window of knowledge.”
